Upon graduation, Charles “Bud” Crawford served with the U.S. Air Force until 1946. Spending over 40 months overseas with the ninth Air Force, he was awarded two bronze stars and three overseas campaign service medals while participating in operations in the Middle East and Europe.

Bud spent his business career in Dayton, starting as a purchasing agent in 1947 and rising to the presidency of Payne and Company before the company merged with Mead Corporation.

His civic involvement in Dayton includes many years serving the First Baptist Church as a three-term member of the board of trustees and chairman of the Church’s endowment committee, a trustee for the Montgomery County Humane Society, and a volunteer for the Dayton YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, and Kettering Hospital.

Bud is an active fraternity volunteer, having served as trustee for Sigma Chi, and Denison volunteer, being vice chairman for the Annual Solicitation Program and the Ford Foundation Campaign. He was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1976 to 1985.

He is currently on the 50th reunion committee serving as class gift co-chair.
