B.A., Denison University
LL.B., University of Virginia

Citation awarded June, 1984

As a member on the executive committee of the Washington law firm, Hogan & Hartson, Gerald Gilbert has served as a deferral prosecutor, an international lawyer, and a trade association executive. He has been instrumental in creating an international trade practice within his law firm. Such a practice involved a mixture of law, economics, politics, and administration. He is also president-elect of the Federal Bar Association, a national association of 15,000 attorneys who practice in federal courts and agencies.

Gerald is a captain in the United States Naval Reserve JAG corps. This summer he will receive the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, which is one of the highest awards a reservist can receive during peacetime.

Gerald was an English major at Denison and received his LLB from the University of Virginia in 1962. An enthusiastic supporter of the college, he has served as Alumni Club president, career advisor, Sesquicentennial Campaign volunteer, and, with his wife, Juliana, (Hauser ’57) as national co-chairman of the 1981-82 Annual Fund.
