Since his graduation from Denison in 1929, Hartley Laycock Jr. pursued a successful business career, and has been an active member of his community.

Beginning as an account executive with Winthrop, Mitchell & Co., he rose to manager of the Collateral Loan Department of that firm before going to the Quaker Oats Company as assistant treasurer in 1943. Mr. Laycock became vice president for research and development in 1964 and retired in 1970.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, he has served as president of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, as chairman of the board of Rockford College, as a member of the board of the Girl Scouts of Chicago, and as a director of the Memorial Hospital for McHenry County. Further, he has been the director of UARCO, and treasurer, and trustee of the Quaker Oats corporate foundation.

Since his retirement he has divided his time between Florida and Illinois. He is the second of the 14 members of his family who attended Denison.
