Citation awarded June, 1987

In June 1986, General John T. Chain assumed his current position as commander-in-chief of the Strategic Air Command and director of the Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff. He was previously serving as chief of staff of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). He has been listed in Who’s Who in America and received the distinguished service medal in 1979, the distinguished Flying Cross in 1966, the Vietnamese Armed Forces Special Services Medal, Legional Merit Award, and many other awards.

Officers of this rank usually come from the service academies, so Jack Chain’s success is particularly noteworthy. He was commissioned a second lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Program at Denison.

Jack is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, the board of directors Omaha Chamber of Commerce, board of directors United Way of the Midlands, a governor of AK-SAR-BEN, and on the board of directors of the Armed Forces Relief and Benefit Association.
