In today’s environment, when Denison graduates may have several jobs before their five-year reunion, Paul Clark is an anachronism. Paul has worked for the same bank since he graduated. But don’t tell Paul his career has been a straight trajectory. “I don’t think of my career as a ladder. It’s not that simple. My career has been more like a spiral staircase, full of twists and turns. Once in a while I’d step down a floor, then head up another one.”

Currently the Northeast Ohio President of PNC, Clark credits his Denison education with the most important aspect of his work: building relationships. Clark is active in a number of civic and business organizations, serving on the boards of directors of Baldwin-Wallace University (who awarded him a Doctor of Humane Letters in 2010), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cuyahoga County Invest in Children, Greater Cleveland Partnership, Cleveland Orchestra, Playhouse Square Foundation, Team NEO, The United Way of Greater Cleveland, University Circle, Inc. and University Hospitals Health Systems, Inc.

The best relationships he’s built are his family. Paul is married to Jill Goubeaux Clark, Class of 1976, and a Denison Trustee. Jill was graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and served as General Counsel of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Jill and Paul are the proud parents of Michael, a junior at Johns Hopkins University, and David, a sophomore at the University of California at Berkeley.
