Following graduation from Denison and after a tour of duty in the Air Force, Tom began a distinguished career in the insurance business in Cleveland, starting as a life underwriter for New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1955. He became a general agent and assumed top administrative positions with several companies. He became senior vice president of the Empire General Life Insurance Company in 1980.

Tom has been an active participant in civic affairs, such as with the Boy Scouts and Rotary International, and as a trustee of the United Christian Missionary Society.

Tom has given exceptional service to Denison. He served as an alumni-nominated trustee from 1982 to 1988; vice president and president of the Society of the Alumni; Cleveland Alumni Club president; co-chair of the Ford Foundation Challenge in Cleveland; a career advisor and an Annual Fund Worker.
