Elinor Eschman Dunham is an enthusiastic and lifelong supporter of Denison. She grew up in Granville as the daughter of Denison’s beloved professor of music, Karl Eschman. Elinor double majored in German and music, excelling as a student. She was awarded membership in all the major honoraries: Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Society, Crossed Keys, and Mortar Board.
She and her husband Hal moved to Granville during World War II and found it a “wonderful place to raise a family.” Living so close kept Elinor in touch with the college and the community for most of her life. She was a music teacher in Licking County for more than 18 years before retiring in 1981.
Upon retirement to Florida, Elinor’s caring nature lead her into service with FISH (Friends in Service Here), assisting with Meals on Wheels, aid to hurricane victims, and transportation of patients to health care facilities.
Elinor’s Denison service represents a lifetime of devotion and goodwill to her alma mater. She was a Denison Development Program worker, Ford Challenge captain for Licking County, secretary of the Licking County Association, and a member of the class of 1938 golden anniversary committee.
