Citation awarded on Saturday, June 11, 1955
A distinguished industrial executive and a devoted public servant, Frederick Oswalt Detweiler combines sound business judgments with rare qualities of leadership in such a manner as to reach rarely attained goals.
His meteoric business career includes the supervising of the post-war closing of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft installation in Missouri as manager of that plant as well as divisional controllership of the Sikorsky Division of United Aircraft. His efforts, which earned for him the supreme confidence and respect of leaders in the aircraft industry, led him to the presidency of the independent Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation in 1954.
A citizen who has always accepted and discharged the duties of citizenship without thought of self, Mr. Detweiler holds numerous civic and industrial directorships, including on the boards of American Red Cross, Texas Bank and Trust Company, Dallas Power and Light Company, the National Industrial Conference Board, and the 8th Regional Advisory Counsel on Naval Affairs of the Navy League.
