Serving as an executive, molder of public opinion, and keeper of the public conscience, Charles E. Pierson is an able representative of the best tradition of American journalism in the metropolitan centers of our country.
He has served the fourth estate for nearly 40 years- first for the Scripps-Howard newspapers, the Pittsburgh Press (1928-30), the Toledo News Bee (1930-33), the Cincinnati Post (1933-39) and returning to the Pittsburgh Press (1939-56) as news editor and later managing editor. In 1956, he joined the Newhouse newspaper organization and was appointed executive editor of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat where he functions now as head of the news operation of the largest morning daily between Chicago and Los Angeles. He has been recognized by church and civic organizations which have called him to positions of responsibility.
