Mary has made distinguished contributions in community leadership and women’s advocacy. From 1975 to 1979 she directed the Women’s Ohio Volunteer Employment Network (WOVEN) a program whose objectives were to promote the advancement of women into State governmental service and to translate women’s volunteer skills to job qualifications.

As one of the founders of the Ohio Commission on the Status of Women (1970), Mary convened a Congress of State Organizations for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in Ohio, and this later resulted in the formation of the Ohio Coalition for the ERA, which she chaired. The Equal Rights Amendment was ratified in Ohio on February 7, 1974.

In 1984, Mary was named to the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame. She has served as Alumnae District president of Kappa Alpha Theta, as President of Church Women United of Columbus and as Chairman of the Governing Board of First Community Church. She was a founder and President of the Metropolitan Women’s Center and a founder of the Center for new Directions formed to meet the educational and job preparation needs of women suddenly single through divorce or widowhood.

In her professional life Mary has been Director of Special Events for the YWCA, Community Service Director of Freedom Federal Savings and Loan, and a Managing Partner of the Financial Education and Implementation Network.

Mary and her husband, Howard, now reside in Chesterfield, Missouri. She has one daughter and two grandchildren.
