As a well-known actor, industry award winner, and recipient of the 2,570th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Steve Carell has entertained millions of viewers throughout his still-unfolding, illustrious career. His many films include Bruce Almighty, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Despicable Me and its sequels, Beautiful Boy, Irresistible, Vice, Asteroid City, and Foxcatcher, for which he earned an Oscar nomination.
On television, Steve’s appearances have ranged from The Daily Show and The Morning Show to Space Force and The Patient. He starred as Michael Scott on the popular TV series The Office, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Television Comedy in 2006 and receiving many subsequent Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Steve’s recent ventures include a run on Broadway in Uncle Vanya.
Steve’s foray into improvisational comedy began at Denison as a member of the Burpee’s Seedy Theatrical Company, which was founded in 1979 and is considered to be the nation’s oldest collegiate improv group. Steve also played club ice hockey and was a disc jockey for WDUB at Denison, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and theatre in 1984.
After graduating, Steve moved to Chicago and joined The Second City improv troupe alongside Stephen Colbert. He later starred with fellow Denison alum Jennifer Garner ʼ94 in 2014’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Steve has been a generous supporter of the Burpee’s Seedy 40th Reunion Fund and the Denison Ice Hockey Excellence in Coaching Endowed Fund. In addition to philanthropic support of Denison initiatives, Steve and his wife, Nancy, are active contributors to Boston College, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Usual Suspects Theatre Company, Oakwood School, and more. They reside in Los Angeles.
