Sheila Parks Little has achieved distinction in her field as a research scientist. Following graduation from Denison in 1972, she received a Ford Foundation Fellowship for five years of pre-doctoral training. She enrolled at Harvard University in the department of microbiology and molecular genetics. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1978 and was awarded the Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell and NIH post-doctoral fellowships. Her post-doctoral work took place at the Sidney Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School.

In 1980, she joined the Eli Lilly Company where she currently holds the rank of research scientist. She has conducted research of recombinant DNA biology and is currently researching haemostasis and fibrinolysis using recombinant DNA technology. She has published papers in numerous scientific journals, as well as presented them at conferences.

Sheila has been active with many civic organizations, especially the Center for Leadership Development for Minorities, and has presented many times to educate women and minorities about entering science careers. She served as a counselor-at-large on the Alumni Board and retired in 1985 from a six-year term on Denison’s Board of Trustees as an Alumni-Nominated Trustee.
