Citation awarded June, 1999
Janet Waugh Halliday has been one of Denison’s most loyal and effective volunteers over many years, serving in a variety of roles, both prominent and behind the scenes.
In alumni governance, Janet served as President of the Columbus, Ohio Alumni Club during the 1970’s and during the 1980’s as Vice President and Secretary of the Alumni Council, concluding with a two-year term as President of The Society of the Alumni. An admissions volunteer as well, she was National Chair of DART (Denison Alumni Recruiting Team) in 1985-86. Janet and her husband, Peter B. Halliday ’59, have collaborated in various fundraising activities, including the Chairmanship of the Ohio region of The Campaign for Denison (1991-94). Janet was elected in 1990 to a six-year term as Alumni-Nominated Trustee of Denison. IN that capacity, she was member of the Enrollment Committee, the Committee on University Relations and Development, and the Committee on Alumni Affairs. She achieved a flawless record of attendance at Board meetings. Since leaving the Board of trustees, Janet has served on the Women for Denison Committee, and she continues to share the role of Class Reunion Manager with Pete.
The larger community has also benefited from Janet’s leadership. Some of her many community involvements have included membership on the Boards of the Franklin Park Conservatory, the Dawes Arboretum, and the Bexley Education Foundation. Janet was named “Citizen of the Year” for her efforts in her local community. She is active in the Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
Janet and Pete are the parents of three grown children, Scott B. Halliday ’87, Heidi Halliday Ackley ’91 and Craig Halliday.
