Jim Gordon, senior partner, Morrow, Gordon & Byrd in Newark, Ohio, has had a distinguished career both in his profession and in the area of community service.
Following his graduation from Denison in 1950, he attended Yale Law School, where he was director of Yale’s Moot Court of Appeals and a member of the Order of the Coif, the national legal honorary society. He received is his LL.B. degree in 1953. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation and the Ohio State Bar. He is a past president of the Licking County Bar Association.
In 1959, he was honored by the Newark Junior Chamber of Commerce as one of the area’s three Outstanding Young Men for his efforts on behalf of the Mental Health Association, the Democratic Club, and the Bar Association, together with his service as legal aide to the Board of Education and Home Builders Association. In 1969 he was appointed to the Granville Board of Education and was named president in 1977. He has been president of the Licking County United Way, director of the Newark Area Chamber of Commerce, director of the board of Licking County Mental Health Association, and president of the Newark Kiwanis Club.
He has been generous with his time on behalf of Denison. He twice served as member-at-large of the Alumni Council, and in addition has been Ford Campaign Captain for Licking County, Greater Denison Campaign volunteer, career advisor, and reunion manager for his class’s 15th and 25th reunions.
