Philip Elmer LaMoreaux is a respected scholar of water sources, economic geology, paleontology and stratigraphy. Philip has applied his vast knowledge in these areas to solve water supply problems around the world, including in the Gulf and Atlantic coastal plains.
Presently, he is a state geologist and oil and gas supervisor for the state of Alabama and a member of the governor’s Industrial Committee. A former division hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, Philip has directed water resources programs for a 14-state area. He has been responsible for the development of ground water supplies in Thailand (1961, 1963); Egypt (1954, 1960-63); the Philippines (1961); Colombia (1962); and Mauretania (1963). A U.S. delegate to the International Map Committee meetings of the International Association of Scientific Hydrologists, he has served in Helsinki, Finland (1960), Athens, Greece (1961), Paris, France (1962), and Berkeley, Calif. (1963). Over 50 of his publications have appeared in circulars and papers of the U.S. Geological Survey, the Alabama Survey, and technical journals.
