A national leader in the realm of health and welfare, Harold James is a devoted public servant who embodies the best of Denison ideals in giving unsparingly of his time, talents, and energy in a notable service to his community, state and nation.
Attorney in the law firm of Doyle, Lewis & Warner of Toledo, he is known in his profession as the leader in the reorganization of the administration of the courts in Lucas County. In his community he is recognized as one of its most prominent civic leaders and is a recipient of the “Outstanding Citizen Award” given by the Toledo Council of Social Agencies.
During his career, he has served as president of the Toledo YMCA, director of the Community Chest, treasurer and director of the Hospital Planning Association of Greater Toledo, trustee of the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Toledo Council of Social Agencies.
On the state level he has served as president of the Ohio Citizen’s Council for Health and Welfare, chairman of the Ohio Community Leaders Conference, and trustee of the Ohio Council of Churches Foundation.
At the national level, he has been called to be director and vice president of the United Community Funds and Councils of America, chairman of UCFC’s Community Planning Advisory Council, and commissioner on the National Commission on Community Health Services.
A prominent lay leader in the Baptist church, Mr. James is equally well-known as a Denison alumni leader in club, class and fund work.
