In recognition of an alumnus who has given outstanding service to Denison University and who has achieved unusual success in the business world, Denison University confers upon Mr. Nellis an Alumni Citation.
Entering business as a Feed Ingredient Broker, Joseph G. Nellis founded the Nellis Feed Company and has brokered more soybean oil meal, the chief source of protein for farm feeds, than any other firm in the country. During World War II, he served with the War Food Administration in Washington, D.C. as head of the protein meal division. Mr. Nellis is a member and past officer of numerous business organizations and past president of the Denison Alumni Association of Chicago. He is the holder of a special citation for his devoted service to the Episcopal Church and founder of the Tuerk-Nellis Theatre Arts Award, which is granted annually to the Denison student who has made the greatest contribution to the theatre and provides for a month of professional study with either the New York theatre or with Hollywood studios.
His record of services has generated fellowship within Denison, business, fraternity, and church communities, and effectively contributed to the enhancement of Denison’s prestige.
