A member of the 50th reunion class of 1934, Ruth Darrow Jensen majored in zoology at Denison and received her R.N. from the Washington University, St. Louis, School of Nursing.
At the Washington University Clinic, she served as head nurse and later became nursing supervisor. She has also been a member of the Washington University School of Nursing teaching faculty. Further, she worked with St. Louis University setting up and giving classes to prepare nursing students to teach prenatal and well-baby care. She has lectured in high school and colleges on sex education and has set up well-baby clinics in local schools.
Always an active member of the community, she was for many years a Girl Scout troop leader. At the Third Baptist Church, she has served in a variety of roles including chairman of the pulpit supply committee during the time there was a vacancy in the position of senior minister. She has taught Sunday school classes at all levels and, with her husband, was co-director of the senior high Sunday school department.
In addition to her career and her assistance to her husband’s practice, Ruth Jensen raised three children, all of whom are alumni of Denison University.
