Dr. Joshua Jensen, a member of the class of 1934, which is celebrating its 50th reunion year, is a distinguished and noted surgeon in St. Louis who is also a member of the teaching faculty of St. Louis University Medical School as a senior instructor of surgery.
Dr. Jensen was appointed to the medical staff of the St. Louis Police Department in 1949 and became its medical director in 1953. During his tenure, the medical staff doubled in size and instituted innovative new programs. Also during this time, the color and sex barriers were broken in the hiring of medical staff members.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Jensen, who received his M.D. from Washington University, St. Louis, in 1938 and his master of surgery from University of Missouri, St. Louis, in 1942, has served as chief of surgery at Bethesda General, Missouri Baptist and Christian Hospitals. He also served as co-chief of staff of Christian Hospital. He served in the Medical Corps in World War II in the Mediterranean Theatre, receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
In addition to his medical activities, he served on the American Baptist Foreign Missionary Society Board for nine years and has been active in the American Baptist Convention. He has been Chairman of the board of deacons of the Third Baptist Church, and has also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
