Jeanette Albiez Davis

Jeanette Albiez Davis, 1924

B.A., Denison University

Citation awarded June, 1989

Before her marriage to Samuel S. Davis in 1927, Jeannette worked in the Cincinnati Public Library and taught in the Newport, Kentucky, school system.

On October 14, 1988, the Davis Plaza at Denison was dedicated in honor of this alumni couple from Columbus who established a very major endowment funding a unique work-scholarship program at their alma mater. In establishing this endowment, the Davis family’s hope was that the scholarship would help perpetuate the American traditions of self-reliance and hard work.

Jeannette was a life-long partner of Sam Davis, a Denison trustee and former Citation recipient. She shared in his various philanthropic projects, most particularly in service to the college they loved.

She was active in alumni affairs activities in Columbus both with the Alumni Club and with reunion planning. In addition to being an alumna and a significant volunteer, she is also a Denison parent with two of their three children having attended Denison.

She has served as a trustee of the Hannah Neil Mission in Columbus, a private social agency providing interim care for children of problem homes; a member of the women’s auxiliary of Children’s Hospital; a member of Childhood League; and a sustaining member of Juvenile Service Board of Columbus. She is also a member of Trinity Methodist Church of Columbus.
