A veteran Cleveland attorney, a former outstanding collegiate athlete, a former professional football player and official, and an outdoorsman, trustee-emeritus George Roudebush served the Denison Board with great dedication for 33 years. He retired in 1974 as vice chairman of the Trustee’s investment committee. For more than 20 years he headed the Board’s finance committee, of which he was first vice president for several years. A constant Denison athletic booster, he was a four sports letterman in football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. He played on two All-Ohio Conference championship teams, the 1914 football and 1915 basketball squads. He played professional ball with the Cincinnati Celts, one of the best pro-teams in Ohio, and the Dayton Triangles, one of the original National Football League teams.
Born on an Ohio farm and already a famous sports figure when he went to Cleveland to start his law career, Mr. Roudebush has continued successful practice for 55 years and is senior partner in Roudebush, Adrian, Brown, Corlett & Ulrich. For more than 12 years he was chairman of the taxation committee of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. He has served the Beta Theta Pi fraternity as a national trustee and as district chief. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland Heights, he has been a trustee and a deacon. He has also pursued agricultural interests in the harvesting of Christmas trees and tomato and asparagus specialty crops on a 125-acre farm near Chardon.
Throughout his life he has prided himself on being a self-made man and has clearly accomplished that goal.
