Following her graduation from Denison University in 1984, Sarah received her M.S.W. from Indiana University in 1991. She holds her CCSW and specializes in family therapy, child welfare issues and women’s empowerment. Sarah is an advocate for women’s health and reproductive freedom. She has been involved in Indiana NARAL since the mid-1980’s and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of Central Indiana. She belongs to the National Association of Social Workers, the Alpha Delta Mu National Social Work Honor Society, and the National Association of Family Based Services. In 1991, she was honored with the Outstanding Young Women of America citation.
As a Family Life Education Counselor with Visiting Nurse Service in Indianapolis, Sarah has worked with hundreds of families involved in the child welfare system. Her belief that “you have to take service to people” has made her an advocate for family preservation services in the State of Indiana. Additionally, Sarah has had extensive experience in working with rural women and their children. Her focus is to build on strengths and encourage development of positive self-esteem.
Sarah is also employed by the Indiana Youth Institute, a not-for-profit intermediary agency which advocates for young people by serving the youth development professionals who work with them. She mentors youth workers on their professional growth and development.
Sarah and her husband, Richard, have a three-year-old son, and live in Indianapolis.
