Steffie Wright Crowther has been described as one of Denison’s most able and accomplished alumni. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate in French and German, she earned her M.A. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University a year after graduating from Denison. Entering the business world, she spent close to twenty years with Chase Manhattan Bank, rising from credit analyst to Vice President and Senior Client Executive responsible for the GE and GM relationships. She held posts in New York City, Frankfurt, Germany, and Paris. In 1994 she joined PNC Bank in Philadelphia as Vice President and Group Manager responsible for Large Corporate Banking in the mid-Atlantic area. She has recently accepted a new senior marketing position in the Communications Industry group.
An exceptional athlete as well, Steffie was inducted into the Denison Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. In tennis she held the #1 singles position all four of her student years, and she won the state title in the Ohio Intercollegiate Tennis championship in 1972. She is also an accomplished ice skater and was a nationally ranked squash player (#12 in Women’s Open in 1987). She continues to serve as a Silver Dance Judge for the U.S. Figure Skating Association and a certified referee for the U.S. Squash Racquets Association.
Steffie served Denison from 1985 to 1991 as an Alumni-Nominated Trustee, and she has done extensive volunteer work for her alma mater in fund-raising, admissions, and career advising. She is most proud of having initiated in 1973 the seed program to DART involving recent alumni in recruiting efforts. She is currently Chair of the Board of the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She also served for two years on the Board of the YMCA International Branch of Greater New York.
Steffie and her husband John have two young children, and live in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
