Following his graduation from Denison, George H. Shorney returned to Chicago, and after working for Marshall Field & Co., began his career with Hope Publishing Company in 1958 as office manager. In 1962, he became vice president, and was named president in 1970, a post he still holds.
George is a member of a distinguished Denison family and has maintained the tradition of significant service to his alma mater. He has served as a club president in Chicago, in various fund-raising campaigns including the Ford Foundation challenge, as a member-at-large of the Alumni Board, and as president of the Alumni Society from 1976 to 1978.
George began the George H. Shorney Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1976 in memory of his father. The proceeds of this fund are used for financial aid.
His local community has also benefited from George’s commitment to civic service. He has served on the boards of two hospitals in his area and as a chairman of the board of the Wheaton, Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners.
George is married to an alumna, and two of their children are graduates from the classes of 1983 and 1988.
