David O. Richards retired in 1982 as director of research & development at the Owens-Corning Technical Center in Granville. He began working at Owens-Corning after receiving his bachelor’s degree in physics from M.I.T. in 1945. Activities related to his professional career include membership on the Building Research Council, the corporate representative to the American National Metric Council, and membership in the Ohio Section of the American Physics Society.
In the community, Dave has been an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and has served as President of the Licking County Council of Churches.
Dave comes from a strong Denison family. His grandfather, Emory W. Hunt, was president of the college. He was a child of Denison parents, Harriet Hunt Richards, president of the class of 1914 and C. Earl Richards, class of 1913. His brother and two sisters are Denisonians as well.
He has ably served the college in volunteer roles throughout his life. He has served on the board of the Denison University Research Foundation, on the Baker Scholars Selection Committee, as a career advisor, a DART volunteer, a member-at-large of the Alumni Board, an Annual Fund worker, a Varsity D-Alumni volunteer, a Ford Campaign captain, a Sesquicentennial volunteer, and both Fellows and President’s Associates campaigns. He has been continuously involved in the alumni activities of his fraternity.
