After graduating from Denison phi beta kappa in 1941, Thomas “Tim” Norpell received a masters from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy in 1942. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Marines. His distinguished military career includes service in the South Pacific where he participated in campaigns in Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He was awarded two bronze stars, a Purple Heart, and four campaign stars.
After the war he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1948 and began the practice of law in Newark, Ohio.
He has served his community as trustee and director of various organizations, including the Newark Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, the Kiwanis, and the Licking County Symphony. He is a past president of the Licking County Bar Association, past member of the Ohio State Bar’s executive committee, and member of the Ohio State Bar’s Council of Delegates.
Tim has served Denison as an alumni-nominated trustee from 1953 to 1959; president of the Alumni Society in 1952 and 1953; fund chair for Licking County; career advisor; and worker for the Ford Challenge.
